Mail Pouch Barn

Decaying Mail Pouch Barn Jefferson County, Indiana

Another image from my trip 2 weeks ago to southern Indiana.  This old Mail Pouch barn has definitely seen better days, but then again, most all of these old barns are getting in this type of condition. This image was captured with my Nikon D200 using my 18-200 F5.6 VR lens  and Hoya HD Pro circular polarizer.

When I initially began shooting seriously, my main focus was on the Mail Pouch barn.  I now shoot all types of barns while out and about.  Feel free to browse my barn gallery at Country Roads Photo.

Streets of Madison Indiana

Streets of Madison Indiana

Originally uploaded by Lyle C

Last weekend, along with a few of my photographer friends we paid a visit to Madison, Indiana. This is a very historic town sitting on the banks of the Ohio River.

This small town is one of the best around for a nice walk with your camera. The downtown is wonderful with many antique shops and very historic buildings. This image is the front yard of one of the many beautifully restored old homes. You can see this image a bit larger by clicking here.

A great day trip, and don’t forget your camera!!

Red Barn

Red Barn Bartholomew County, Indiana

This is one of my drive by shooting barns.  Located right on the highway, I stopped and quickly rattled off 2 shots.  This image was captured with my Canon G11, which is with me most of the time.  Great little camera when you don’t want to drag out the big gear.  There is another shot of this barn on my website you can see here.

Have a great day!

Stormy Day

Weathered Red Barn Wyandot County, Ohio

Following the high winds and finally some rain in the area yesterday, we are left with almost no autumn color.  High winds will continue today.  Photo opportunities still abound here in South Central Indiana.  Trying to get some work done around the house , but hopefully this evening the ole Nikon will be hard at work.

For this post I have included an image captured last fall on one of my drives home from northern Ohio.  My Tokina 11 -16 F2.8 wide angle lens was used for this capture. You can see a larger image here.

Have a great day!!

Colors of Autumn

Old Red Barn and Silo Bartholomew County, Indiana

This image was captured last weekend in Bartholomew County, Indiana. The autumn colors this year are very subdued due to the ongoing drought. See this image larger by clicking here.

Another Smokies Shot

Sorry folks, but with winter, and having a terrible cold, I have just not found the time to get out and take some good images.  My thoughts are that this would be a perfect time to share a black and white image of the old grist mill located in Cades Cove, deep in the heart of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park.

I have shot this on a couple of occasions, but find this black and white to be very pleasing.  I call it “Walk Inside” .  We spoke about this image in our photography club last night.  When asked why I chose the title, my explanation was the wooden walkway and the open door.  Looking at these two points in the image, I immediately want to walk inside.

Springs Arrival

Narrow Red Barn

While out and about yesterday with my camera, it was clearly evident that mother earth is beginning its transition from winter to spring. The grass and winter wheat is beginning to get very green, and the trees have a reddish tone to them. All sure signs of renewal.

The barn above was captured in Jackson County, Indiana, not far from Brownstown. It was a very nice morning to be out and about with the camera. Being a Friday morning, the traffic was minimal. This allowed for some nice drive by shooting opportunites.

Stop by my website to view the other images I captured on Good Friday. We are now offering canvas gallery wraps for most all of my images. These are extremely high quality prints on archival canvas, that look great in any room. Click here for more information.

March Weather

March Morning

While running into town this past Saturday, I came across this very nice red barn.  There was a very low cloud deck that morning, making for a good HDR opportunity.  For me the best time to use this technique is when the clouds are low and gray. We had been driving past this barn for many years, wondering how we could get a good capture.  Finally opening our eyes when driving through here, I noticed a country road going back to an old cemetery.  From here I could get a good view of the barn.

The HDR process worked well on this one, really giving detail to the gray clouds and the red barn.  You can see a larger version by clicking here.

Have a great week!

Cold Winters Day

Cold Winters Day

Finally was able to get out for a short drive this past weekend. As you can see from my image, it was a very gray and gloomy day. There is something about this weather that really makes for more dramatic shots. Its like you can almost feel the cool wind hitting your face when you look at these winter images. If you would like to view this image a bit larger, please go to my home on the web, Country Roads Photo.

Feel free to leave me some comments, and please stop back.
